Primitive Farmhouse find from the Vintage Market

A number of weeks back, Darrell and I were able to go to a Vintage White Sale in Somers Montana.  We came across a few things that we brought home!  One of my favorites is  the subject of my "photo shoot" today!  Its a good thing I live in the country and the neighbors can't see what I drag around the yard to get a picture of!  I think the light was perfect in amongst the fallen leaves and the little box I found tucked under some of the Saskatoon bushes.  Perfect for what I needed,,,,

I love this old bowl set and scooped it up right away when I saw it in one of the booths at the sale.   The lady I bought it from said it is an old butter bowl.  Doing a bit of research I have found it referred to as a  dough bowl or butter bowl.   I just love its rustic and worn look!

The butter was churned and then put into the larger bowl and the paddle was used to work the rest of the buttermilk out......I am not sure what the smaller bowl was used for?  I sure am glad they came as a set though cause I think they are perfect together.  Does anyone else have any information on these primitive bowls, when they could date back to, if you have any in your collection?

Great autumn colors..
Of course, I always wonder who was the person who used this item?
How many people were in the family that enjoyed the home made butter?
It was probably a chore done very often and took time and effort...

Can't decide what to fill my lovely bowl with....pumpkins

Apples...

Or a mix of harvest colors..

I am posting this to Farmgirl Friday and will use it for Mosaic Monday next week as well.

Gorgeous set of bowls and a gorgeous set of Note Cards. (I think note cards all the time these days.) And, you've answered a question that I did not know I had...I have a butter paddle that I have been using like a wooden spoon. It works quite well on some things like large batches of spaghetti sauce or the stirring of Christmas fudge. Love learning something new before ten in the morning!

The image of the apples in the wooden bowl is completely amazing!

On a trip to a pioneer village a few years back a woman was making her shortbread in a wooden dough bowl. Something that shallow would definitely work better than the deep glass bowls I have. I think any seasonal display would look nice in the bowl. I'm wondering what kind of wood it is to have lasted so long, it must have been lovingly cared for by a previous owner.
