Day 6 of the 7 Day Photo Challenge...

So the week is almost up!  Its been fun trying to think of something creative!  Today, after church, Ben and I went out for Chinese food ( Darrell is working days).. and then I decided to take a 45 minute drive to Drumheller and get a few errands done.  One of them being to get pictures from Provincials developed so I can start scrapbooking them.  It was also a nice sunny day for a drive :), so again, I took my camera and was off.

You can take a more scenic route to Drumheller from Hanna through the Handhills.   I've been told that this group of hills looks like a hand from the air....anyways, this is where I found todays photo of the day.  Along the hillside when you come around a curve, this old house still stands on the hill.  Note to self,,,,when wandering around in spring melting conditions, be sure to take some boots along!  There were footprints in the snow, so perhaps someone else had the same idea and beat me to taking some pictures?!  I always wonder about old abandoned houses on the prairies....wondering who lived there, how many people lived in these small quarters, if they liked living on a beautiful hillside,,,all those kinds of things.  Anyways, I hope you enjoy the pictures and I will also be posting this as my Monday Mosaic over at the Little Red House

Thanks to Sara for sharing the 7 day photo challenge with us, and be sure to check out the others who have joined in

They appear to be melting just like the snow...

I always wonder who lived there too. A few years ago we drove across the prairies to Banff and it made me sad to see our history rotting and falling apart and disappearing into the dirt. They are such simple, rustic homes, cabins, and outbuildings and are just beautiful against the prairie skies. You took some fantastic photos of them.

I love old abandoned barns, so much texture and contrast of light. The photos look great in black and white.

i'm always intrigued by abandoned buildings on farms ... who lived there, why did they leave. history. besides just being fascinated by how they look! i agree with Vee ... looks like the buildings are melting along with the snow.

They make me wonder like the other comments say. Who? Why? I do genealogy research and am always looking at things to see how they relate to the families. Where did they go?
Then I think about what great country style signs one could make from the weathered wood. Lol.

I always feel a pang when I pass by such old abandoned houses. There were a lot of them up around Smoky Lake, and we'd pass them on our way from Cold Lake to Edmonton. The dreams, the celebrations, the heartache - the stories the old houses could tell....

what amazing stories these old houses must have to tell. And what fortitude these early settlers had to go out there to new country. These old houses make wonderful subjects for photography. Thank you for sharing with us.
